This is another alternative to Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007. Upon using this for atleast 6 months, I have mixed thoughts with this product. The office suite loads faster than any office suite that I have used whether it be openoffice or microsoft office. The user interface is very similar to Microsoft Office 2003 with some alterations to the drop down menus. For the most part, I very much liked the feel to the office components and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a cheaper, faster alternative to Microsoft Office.
However, there are some downfalls that I just found recently. Apparently, the application crashses itself without explanation whenever I am typing halfway through my paper for no known reason. This might be due to using a portable version of textmaker or the fact that I might be pressing some unknown hotkey for closing windows.
Overall, the office suite is pretty solid if all one needs to do is use MS word, or Excel. The newest version (2007) contains all the office applications commonly found in any microsoft suite.
Since Softmaker is so confident that the customer will like their product, they are leasing Office 2006 for free. Therefore, one should give this product a spin before trying OpenOffice out.
